Palmer Ranch is bisected North to South by the Sarasota-to-Venice Legacy Rail-TrailThe Legacy Trail is an ever-expanding recreational trail that spans from Venice in Sarasota County to Downtown Sarasota. This trail currently runs over 18 miles from the Historic Venice Train Depot at the South starting point up to Fruitville Road just North of Payne Park in Downtown Sarasota, and has 16 trailheads with free parking, some even with BBQ Grills and pavilions. This trail makes biking, walking, running, skating, and scooting a great way to travel through the County and catch some beautiful natural Florida scenery along the way!

Residents of Palmer Ranch can find dining and shopping along Clark Road (FL-72) or where Beneva Road and US-41 meet near the old Sarasota Square Mall, which is currently under redevelopment to become "Sarasota Square", a multi-use lifestyle center featuring apartments, shopping, and dining. Near Sarasota Square you can find a Sprouts Farmers Market grocery store, Target, Publix, and Costco for grocery, or 83 Tavern, Beckham's Bar & Grill on The Trail, and Roessler's Fine Dining Restaurant for dining out. There is a large Golf course community in Palmer Ranch, featuring the TPC Prestancia Golf and Social Club and Stoneybrook Golf & Country Club, The Oaks Club, and Country Club of Sarasota. Following Clark Road (FL-72) out East about 12 miles, residents of Palmer Ranch can visit the Myakka River State Park - an immersive natural Florida experience with miles of paved road along the Upper Myakka Lake for hikers and cyclists to enjoy among the marshes (bike rentals available for those who don't b.y.o.-bicycle). Myakka is also a very exciting park for birding or wildlife-viewing, kayaking/canoeing, boating, and fishing, and contains several campgrounds for those who would love to stay for more!
