These are ranked in order of: Course and condition, practice facilities and driving range, clubhouse and restaurant, other amenities (tennis, pool, etc.), then the quality of homes, sizes, variety of types and styles, upkeep, curb appeal, and entrance appeal and friendliness and professionalism of the staff (gate attendants, club staff, pros, starters, rangers, cart house staff, ground keepers, locker room staff, cooks and bartender and servers in the restaurants). You may also like one over another because of distance to other things you like. For instance, TPC Prestancia is the closest to Siesta Key and the home stock is a bit older (from the 90s to 2000s). Whereas The Founders Club is much newer but East of I-75.

The Best Sarasota Golf and Country Club communities and their features:
1. TPC Prestancia
TPC Prestancia is located in Palmer Ranch 34238 zip code is a private club with grand guard-gated neighborhood entrances, one on Palmer Ranch Parkway and the south entrance on Square Blvd. TPC stands for Tournament Players Club which is a network of golf courses that are operated by the PGA Tour.
This course is owned by Heritage Golf Group and retained it's TPC branding by special licensing agreement and as a member, you get reciprocal priveledges at both Heritage and TPC network of course around the country.
There are two 18 holes golf courses, the Stadium course which of course is raked upward at many holes for gallery spectators to watch. Two PGA Senior Tours have been hosted here, the Chrystler Cup (1987-1994), and the American Express Invitational (1996-2000). The other 18 is the Players "Club" course a slightly shorter tighter course that can be played in under 3 hours from the white tees making it a popular course for residents.
The TPC Prestancia's Club course is older, in fact, it was built in the mid-1970s and was part of the Country Club of Sarasota. That neighborhood has it's own entrance on Beneva Rd. and the course and homes are intertwined with TPC Prestancia's and they are even connected with a cart path over a bridge. Inside the gates of C.C. of Sarasota is the Sarasota Sports Club formerly called Serendipity Racquet it is a 19 court Tennis and Swim facility with a state-of-the-art gym as well as it's own bar and grill.
Membership to either TPC Prestancia or Sarasota Sports Club is not mandatory for homeowners of either Prestancia or the Country Club of Sarasota.
Single-family homes in TPC Prestancia start at 3BR/2BA and just over 2000 Sq' to homes as large as 5000+ Sq' on large lots with circular drives and 3-4 car side entry garages with screen enclosed pools with spa, lanai with outdoor kitchen all overlooking lakes and or the golf course.
There are 3 story condo buildings with elevators and under-building parking with amazing panoramic views across the course to the clubhouse. There are Villas large and small in several enclaves with their own community pools ranging in size from 1500 Sq' to over 3000 Sq'.
There are townhouses both attached and detached ranging in sizes from 1800+Sq' to 4000 Sq'. Prices in Prestancia range from around $400K to well over $1,000,000. As a club that you can join without having to live in the community, there are several nearby neighboring communities that might appeal to you also. Call us to discuss further we would be glad to assist in your home search.
2. The Oaks Golf and Country Club community.
The Oaks is located in Osprey on either side of US41 the golf course is on the Eastside and features two 18 hole golf courses, a beautiful clubhouse and a tennis facility and pool for a true country club feel. The grand eagle statue and guard-gated entrance and Oak tree-lined curving entrance in with views across the golf course and lakes leading up to the grand victorian white column clubhouse is something special.
The Eagle course is longer and tougher with more water hazards and The Heron is more forgiving with shorter carries over water and fewer sand traps. Both courses are always kept in immaculate condition, the tee boxes, fairways, and greens are always looking like they are ready for a magazine photo.
The Oaks is a private club and membership is mandatory for residents who have to join at either the non-equity level of roughly $40K or equity level roughly $65K (either is due upon closing). The equity level has the future benefit of paying you back roughly $25K when you sell your home down the road.
This may seem a bit of a tough pill for some to swallow but if you are a golfer it certainly accounts for the lower number of players on the course and better upkeep than many lesser courses. From a home value perspective, the cost of joining is basically reduced from the home price ie: similar homes in nearby communities like Turtle Rock or Silver Oaks sell for $40K more, so if you are a golfer and/or tennis player looking for a beautiful facility to call home this has to be a top choice.
3. Founders Club
Is an exclusive and limited number of members of only 275 it boasts no tee times required for just show up and play on this Robert Trent Jones Jr. course. The Founders club so named and developed to pay homage to John Hamilton Gillespie born in the birthplace of golf Edinburgh Scottland in 1862. When he came here in 1886 he made out a little 2 hole course in what is downtown Sarasota making it the first golf holes in the USA "The Founder of Golf" in America. Later he built a full 9 starting where Links Ave. is. Gillespie is also a founder of Sarasota, elected mayor in 1902 when the town was incorporated and was re-elected 6 terms. was voted Mayor. Now you've had your history lesson let me tell you about this golf course and the homes around it. From the tips, this par 72 is 7094 yards carved into the natural rolling terrain with grand oaks dripping with Spanish moss, beautiful lakes, and natural wetlands built with the "core" principle of design (no roads to cross and homes set back farther) It is truly a beautiful golf course and features a traditional caddie program. As for the homes, this is a fine level of luxury with homes from 2 builders John Cannon and London Bay Homes which start at 2800 Sq' and go up to just over 5000 Sq'. The homes sit on large lots and feature 3 or 4 car garage, pool, 10-14' ceilings, and all the other luxury touches you would expect.
4. Venetian Golf & River Club
The Venetian Golf & River Club Is located in North Venice off of Laurel Road East of I-75 with the edge of community skirting the Myakka River. This is a beautiful course with a bit of dunes terrain along lushly green manicured course peppered with Oak Hammocks and glistening lakes. The clubhouse is top-notch along the putting green and full size driving range. The stately club boasts an indoor formal dining hall and a more social outdoor ground floor or covered balcony dining tables to meet and enjoy friends and take in the lovely views. For those that like tennis the River Club section offers 6 lighted Har-Tru clay tennis courts a great workout facility and a resort-style pool with a part-time staffed poolside bar and grill. Kayaking or fishing is also available with a short stroll along a lovely wood plank and railing nature path to the riverside dock. The home stock is from 2003 to 2017 and consists of Single Family Homes and *Carriage Home Condos along lovely lakes, preserve or views along the 18 hole golf course.
*Carriage Homes are either an upstairs unit (plus elevator) or downstairs unit. They feature more of a ranch-style split bedroom layout and have high ceilings, a large open living/kitchen/dining great room plan with sliders to a large screened lanai and all units come with a 2 car garage. Hence the term "carriage house". Carriage houses have become popular since 2006 because people preferred the less squished layout of them as compared to townhomes and with modern construction methods the soundproofing is excellent.
