The Founders Club

The Founders Club, named in honor of John Hamilton Gillespie, stands as a testament to the rich history of golf in America. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1862, Gillespie journeyed to Sarasota in 1886. Here, he crafted the first golf holes in the USA, rightfully earning the title "The Founder of Golf" in America. Beyond his golfing legacy, Gillespie played a pivotal role in Sarasota's history, serving as its mayor for six terms after its incorporation in 1902. Today, The Founders Club pays tribute to his legacy, offering an elite golfing experience set amidst the natural beauty of Sarasota.
